Lewis Allen Reed, oggi molto piu' noto come Lou Reed, nasce il 2 marzo 1942 a Freeport (Long Island, New York City).
Imbocca la strada della celebrita' nel 1965 quando a New York (insieme a John Cale, Sterling Morrison e Maureen "Moe" Tucker) fonda i Velvet Underground, uno dei gruppi culto della storia del rock.
Dal 1972 Lou Reed e' autore e cantante solista ed oggi ha alle spalle oltre venti album. Uno dei suoi maggiori successi e' "Walk on the wild side", che fa parte dell'album "Transformer".
Fra i suoi ultimi lavori le musiche dell'opera teatrale "Poetry" del regista americano Bob Wilson.
Lou Reed viene considerato uno dei più importanti autori di canzoni del nostro tempo, ed ha ispirato artisti come David Bowie, Nick Cave, Sonic Youth, Nine Inch Nails, U2, David Byrne e Patti Smith.
